Description
Date: 1836 (dated by hallmark), late Georgian era; reign of William IV
Ring size: USA 6.5, UK M, EU 53 (cannot be resized; please note that the fit of extra wide bands will feel tighter than regular 2mm ring shanks)
Materials: black enamel, solid 18k yellow gold (marked and tested)
Weight: 5.3 grams
Marks:
[crown 18] for solid 18k gold
[lion head] for the London assay office
[A] year stamp for 1836
[profile of William IV] mark certifying payment of excise duty on gold
Width of band: 9 mm
Thickness of band: 1.35 mm
Condition: a previous owner had polished out the original mourning inscription to the band interior; only a very faint illegible trace of the lettering remains. The full set of original hallmarks are well preserved and crisp. There is minor enamel touch-up restoration to the lettering (mostly to corners with missing enamel). Age-related light surface wear to the gold. Otherwise this band is in fine antique condition.
