Belle Époque Sapphire Diamond White Enamel Ring

An elegant c. 1900 turn-of-the-century Belle Époque ring, designed in the Empire revival style with a white enamel ring face inlaid with a band of gold laurel wreath encircling a sugarloaf cabochon sapphire surrounded by a cluster of small rose-cut diamonds. The setting and shank are of a rich buttery solid 18k yellow gold.

Much of this ring represents the genteel elegance of the Belle Époque era. Cushioned between the end of the Franco-Prussian war and the outbreak of WWI, Belle Époque Europe enjoyed a time of profound peace, prosperity, and general optimism. Much of Belle Époque jewelry seem buoyed by a sense of weightless glamour: designed in the Beaux Arts empire revival style, these pieces were almost always encrusted with diamonds and other fine gems, and bore designs that were light, airy, and unmistakably refined. Common motifs included laurel leaves, bows, laces, garlands, and various foliate patterns.
