Description
Materials: agate, solid 15k gold with a bloomed finish (unmarked; tested with electronic gold tester & nitric-muriatic acid)
Weight: 13.3 grams
Workmanship origin: English
Height: 32 mm (handle extended), 18.9 mm (excluding handles)
Width: 22 mm
Depth: 19 mm
Condition: a 0.9 mm pin sized dent to the gold, right below the lid ‘lip’. A tiny split to the gold at the back edge was professionally repaired with laser welder. There’s a 6 mm tight hairline to the agate, which does not penetrate deeply or run throughout the stone; it’s possible this is a surface-reaching inclusion (loupe visible, but difficult to spot with the naked eye). Some general age-related surface wear throughout. Overall well preserved for the age: the chased casework details are well preserved, the components and hinges working and tight, the lid closes properly.
