Description
Materials: pink sapphires (not GIA certified, but tested and louped-examined to be natural), garnets, vitreous enamel, solid 18k yellow gold (marked & tested)
Weight: 18.5 grams
Workmanship origin: Paris, France
Marks:
[rams head] Paris assay for 18k gold, in use 1819-1838 (struck to uppermost tip of cross)
[eagle head] Paris assay for 18k gold, struck to bail only
Height: 77.4 mm (including bail), 70 mm (excluding bail)
Width: 56 mm
Dimension of rubies/pink sapphires: two 4.75 x 4.5 mm, one 4.75 x 4.75 mm, one 5 x 4.5 mm (approx. 1.8 ctw)
Diameter of garnets: two 5 mm, one 4.5 mm
Condition: some minor enamel touch-up repair to the green leaves, no significant flaws to the gems but under loupe magnification, I can spot age-related flaws such as facet junction abrasions, tiny pin-sized nibbles and cavities. It is unclear whether the back is missing decorative caps to the rivet-joined elements. Overall in excellent antique condition: the chased gold details and granulation are still crisp and well preserved, with the cross retaining its original rich bloomed finish.
