Description
Date: c. 1810, early 19th century (portrait c. 1840 and a later marriage)
Materials: watercolors, hair, vitreous enamel, solid 18k yellow gold (unmarked; tested with electronic gold tester)
Weight: 51 grams
Workmanship origin: likely Geneva (see British Museum 1978,1002.516)
Height of pendant: 122 mm (including bail), 105.6 mm (excluding bail)
Width of pendant: 70.7 mm
Depth of pendant: 5.5 mm
Dimension of interior compositions: 78 x 54 mm
Condition: The hairwork composition is original to the locket. The c. 1840 portrait miniature is a later marriage (not original to production; this pendant came to me with one side empty; the portrait of the girl came to me without a case; my jeweler carefully opened the pendant and placed the portrait in the empty side). Some very minor age-related nibbling to the enamel (no major flaws or eye visible chips). Some faint scratches to the glass (nothing major; glass is clear and glossy). Some age-related surface wear and patina to the gold. Overall in excellent antique condition.
