Description
Date: c. 1890 – 1900s, Late Victorian – Edwardian era
Size: USA 10, UK T, EU 62 (resizable all the way down to a 7 — see complimentary resizing offer)
Materials: diamonds, solid 14k gold (unmarked; tested with nitric & muriatic acid), silver (for the diamond setting only)
Weight: 3.3 grams
Dimension of treble clef ring face: 23 x 9.3 mm
Diameter of diamonds: varying from 1.25 – 2.4 mm (very difficult to estimate carat weight due to the irregular rose cut style)
(Very) approximate color & clarity of diamonds: G-I, I (under 100x magnification, I can spot some carbon inclusion in a couple of the diamonds)
[Please note that due to imperfect available mining and cutting technologies, historic diamonds are frequently “flawed” when graded by modern standards.]
Width of shank: 2.5 – 1.25 mm
Thickness of shank: 0.9 – 1.8 mm
Condition: Overall this ring is in excellent antique condition. The silver, due to age, has some oxidation tarnish. I have not attempted to clean the back of the ring, where some tiny dirt particles have accumulated in the setting crevices. This ring has been sized up in the past; the shank is noticeably thinner at the back, where the extra gold has been added. Finally, there’s a bit of a minor (original) soldering flaw to where the right shoulder/shank joins the music clef ring face; this flaw is shallow at the surface and does not affect the stability of the ring.
