Georgian Chased Gold Fob Bracelet

A chunky and handsome c. 1820-30 Dutch fob bracelet, of a rich 18k gold throughout, consisting of large striated belcher links accented with orbs to the side, connecting to a series of large split rings and two hanging fobs, weighing a nice 36.5 grams. Both split rings can be opened, enabling the addition of further charms. The deeply chased and repoussé -worked floral scrollwork is highly representative of gold craftsmanship throughout Europe during the early 19th century. This bracelet would have originally been a watch chain, later modified into bracelet form with the addition of a late 19th c dog-clip and flat split ring. Its workmanship origin can be attributed to the Netherlands due to close similarity to a c. 1810-30 watch chain in the Rijksmuseum (no. BK-NM-12833), made by Nicolaas ten Velden of Amsterdam. Both pieces feature similar chased striation to its upper links, as well as closely related hallmarks. The chain design of the present bracelet, with a series of large links affixed in parallel formation with smaller intermediary “ties” (as opposed to the standard interlocked links of equal size) is a trait seen on many early 19th c chains.
