Description
Date: mid 18th – early 19th century
Materials: solid 14k yellow gold reliquary & chain (unmarked; tested with electronic gold tester & nitric-muriatic acid),
Workmanship origin: Spanish colonial Philippines (sourced from Madrid, Spain)
Weight: 33.3 grams (25.6 g chain + 7.7 g pendant)
Length of beaded chain: 76 cm (30 inches)
Dimension of beads: varies- 8.4 x 6.5 mm, 7 x 6.2 mm, 4.2 x 3.8 mm, 5 x 4.8 mm
Dimension of pendant: 40 x 32 mm
Condition: general age-related surface wear and patina throughout. Cover glass to the devotional pendant is chipped to the corner and bears light surface scratches. The beaded chain is strung rather tight, causing the alignment of the beads to wave somewhat due to the string tension; it could benefit from re-stringing to one’s preference. Overall this piece is in great antique condition: the meticulous details to the individual beads are well preserved.
