A huge and handsome late Victorian 14k gold intaglio ring, set with an 18 x 13 mm piece of polished garnet counter-relief carved with the image of Ceres / Demeter, the Greco-Roman goddess of agriculture, fertility, and motherly love. Combined with the unpretentious but thick setting, this ring is quite heavy and weighs a substantial 10.7 grams. The garnet ring face reflects light well, and makes an elegant statement when worn.
