Description
Date: c. 1830s, late Georgian – early Victorian (there is a possibility the bloodstone panels date to later)
Ring Size: USA 8, UK P, EU 56.5
Materials: red and dark green bloodstone, solid 12k gold (unmarked; tested with nitric & muriatic acid)
Weight: 3.4 grams
Dimension of ring face: 10 x 13.8 mm
Max. width of decorative shoulders: 11.3 mm
Width of shank: 2.86 – 3.75 mm
Thickness of shank: 0.7 – 1.6 mm
Condition: The bloodstone panels show very tiny nibbles and ‘fleabite’ chips to the edges, particularly at the sharp corners where they meet the gold. The stone surface has a good gloss to it; they’ve likely been repolished sometime in the past (not by me or my jeweler; just guesswork on my part). Due to previous age-wear and repolishings, some of the chased and repousse work to the shank and shoulders have been worn smooth and lost. The gold surface to the back and insides of the ring shows wear and fine scratches.
