Victorian Turquoise Pearl Salamander Pendant

A super charming late Victorian era solid 15k gold salamander, pavé-set throughout with natural seed pearls and Persian turquoise cabochon, including red spinels for its eyes. The salamander was originally a brooch, and has been converted via laser welder into a pendant necklace. The attached chain and clasp are solid 14k gold. According to lore and legend from classical antiquity, the salamander was thought to be able to survive trial by fire. Victorians thus adopted the animal to symbolize passionate love; salamander-shaped jewelry is a popular staple in Victorian sentimental jewelry centered on the idea of romantic courtship.
